Whether you are a foodie or a golf enthusiast, there’s an activity you can indulge in in St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra this spring. There are activities for nature lovers and activities for history lovers; activities you can enjoy alone or with your family. If you’re looking for something to keep you busy this spring, here are 5.
1. St. Augustine Family Fun Fest
On the 28th of April, Francis Field will be buzzing with activity for the St. Augustine Family Fun Fest. A fun fest will take place at the field and feature entertainment, face painting, games, costumed characters, raffle items, crafts, food, drinks, and much more. There will be appearances by the military as well as local law enforcement. A new activity that’s been added this year is the team obstacle challenge course in which 10 teams will compete. The fun fest starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 8 p.m. Adults pay $5, and children aged 12 years and below pay nothing. Military, seniors, and first responders will be charged $3.
2. Ponte Vedra’s Family Seining
Every second and fourth Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., join volunteers and learn how to pull a seine net. You’ll have a chance to collect fish and crabs and learn about their environments and the roles they play. The event takes place at the Environmental Education center and waders and boots are provided. If you’d like more information on this activity, visit the GTM Research reserve website.
3. Night Market at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre – Every fourth Tuesday
If you want to see and buy locally made goods and gifts, be sure to go to The Night Market at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre. It takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. every fourth Tuesday of the month. Up to 90 vendors sell their handmade goods and crafts. There is also entertainment and other activities. The market is open to all ages and admission is free. 4. National Park Week – St. Augustine
This week is all about celebrating America’s best heritage -- its national parks. Discover open spaces, explore wonderful places, enjoy inexpensive vacations and make great connections as you celebrate the country’s national parks. National Park Week starts on April 21st, 2018 and ends on April 29th, 2018. Take time to visit St. Augustine’s national parks, Fort Matanzas and Castillo de San Marcos. On the first day of the event, all the national parks offer free admission. You can plan a trip on the National Park Service site.
5. EPIC Annual Flower and Garden Expo
Artisans and growers from around Florida gather here to offer gardeners expert advice and tips. There are educational seminars and nurseries on display. The expo runs on Saturday April 21st, 2018 (9 a.m.-5p.m.) and Sunday April 22nd, 2018 (10 a.m.-3 p.m.). It is organized by EPIC Counselling Centre and more information about it can be found on its website. Admission is $5, and youths get in for free.
